Allmusic review by richie unterberger sixteen archetypal sensitive male performances from the dawn of the age of mellow. There are some exceptions, like warren zevon's "carmelita," and leonard cohen's "bird on the wire," leon russell's "a song for you," and todd rundgren's "hello it's me. " but generally the sentimental airhead quotient is unreasonably high, including adult contemporary radio standards that us rock critic types love to make fun of by the likes of stephen bishop , rupert holmes , dan fogelberg , dave mason , and paul davis. Falling somewhere in between the poles are james taylor ("fire and rain"), leo sayer ("giving it all away"), harry chapin ("taxi"), and john sebastian ("she's a lady"), as well as the odd obscure name like jake holmes.

Researchers asked 39 extreme-music lovers to describe a frustrating situation involving relationships, finances or work. To measure participants' emotions, researchers monitored their heart rates and asked them how they felt throughout the anger-inducing process.
